Osteopaths, chiropractors, sports therapists and physiotherapists are among the many qualified practitioners who use the Bowen Technique and are amazed at the effectiveness of this simple and gentle form of 'hands on' therapy.
What does a treatment involve?A Bowen Treatment will take approximately 45 minutes and most of the work can be performed through light clothing. Two or three treatments at regular intervals are sufficient to achieve lasting relief from even long standing pain, although further treatments may sometimes be required. To receive maximum benefit it is recommended that other physical therapies are not mixed. i.e. massage, reflexology, physiotherapy, etc.
How does it work? The Bowen Technique is not a form of massage, it treats the whole person. The practitioner uses thumbs and fingers making rolling type movements which activate specific muscles, soft tissue and energy within the body. During treatment there are periods when the client is left resting for a few moments allowing the body to rebalance itself and commence the healing process.
What can it safely treat?Common problems such as back-ache and neck pain, knee problems, sports injuries, RSI, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow and respiratory ailments. Conditions such as chronic fatigue, hayfever, headaches, kidney problems, infant colic and ailments requiring lymphatic drainage have responded well to the Bowen Technique. It is used as a means of stress management and health maintenance involving regular appointments 2 to 4 times a year. The Bowen Technique also addresses many other conditions. It is generally regarded as safe and effective for people of all ages.
Where and when did it all begin?Thomas Bowen was born in Geelong, Australia. The technique was pioneered by him in the early 1950s. He developed a great interest in massage and physiology devoting his time observing football trainers and others involved in sport. Close proximity to a large Chinese community possibly influenced him with their ancient understanding of the body's processes! By the time he was in his early 40s this gifted man had established a full time practice in remedial therapy using his innovative technique.
Reflexology
The history of Reflexology is found in the ancient civilisations of Egypt, India, China and North America.
Bones in the foot are formed so they combine great strength with flexibility. The sole is composed of layers of tough fibrous muscles and ligaments well supplied with nerves and lymphatic glands. The reflexes on the feet are a mirror of the whole organism of the body.
When a function is inhibited or disease is present, we find that congestion in the form of deposits that have not been cleansed away by the Venous circulation and the Lymph. Pressure, massage and stimulation techniques are designed to break up and disperse these crystalline structures in the reflexes. This releases blocked up energy which is causing imbalance.
Stimulation of the circulatory and lymphatic systems encourages the elimination of toxins, thereby assisting the body to heal itself. As a reflex is massaged nerves carry the messages to the brain and to the appropriate glandular centre.
When tension is released the circulation of the blood is increased. Electrical impulses triggered off by pressure massage on a tender reflex releases a subtle energy flow which brings a remarkable return of vitality. This varies with the sensitivity of the individual.
Harmonic Rebalancing
Whilst Bowen Therapy is effective with the majority of patients, there are those who remain with unresolved issues both physical and emotional. A fellow therapist and friend (Lynn Williams - Keynsham) introduced me four years ago to a Mr Brian Jenner with whom I qualified. 'Internal Acoustic Surveillance Technology' course. His research of 30 years resulted in developing a process of healing – that is harmonic rebalancing of body systems; accessed by Universal Intelligence (God). He discovered that our D.N.A. resonates with 12 number digital sequences and fractal equations. He also optimised Chakras with the use of colours. By contacting Universal Intelligence with simple muscle testing he could locate areas of the body where the vibrations were out of harmony, and with corrective procedures restore natural resonance.
With the Chakras and Meridians restored to optimum performance using focussed intent, and integrity from the practitioner; the mind/body energy field is rebalanced. This often results in a mild healing process recognised by a period of de-toxing (releasing stress and toxic residue from the body).
Much of this work involves the sub-conscious or inner intelligence in which linger own personal issues and history, which are usually put to one side in the daily battle with the material world. However, these personal issues cause conflict and stress resulting in disharmony. Once faced and recognised, their effects are diminished and the body's consciousness is activated to self heal.
